Life On A Wilderness Beach

Something about every nice beach is restorative – the feel of sand through your toes, the salty air, the sight of sea sparkling against a blue sky, and the rhythmic sounds of waves lulling you to sleep.

How much more so, then, when the beach in question is bordered by pristine wilderness, as on the west coast and sometimes the east coast of Canada…
Take for example, the beaches near Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Here the beach is bordered by temperate old-growth rainforest, the sand is fine and broad, and flocks of Sandpipers fly before you as you stroll along the water’s edge.

Tofino is a famous destination for surfers because here the waves come all the way from Japan. There is also sea-kayaking, whale-watching, hiking, horseback riding and salmon fishing.

And there are rustic yet luxurious lodges to stay in or rustic and un-luxurious ones! The atmosphere is laid back and everyone enjoys eating a crab dinner with their fingers and leaving the table littered with bottles and shells…
